Humanizing Pediatric Emergency and ICU Spaces in Castilla-La Mancha

Thanks to the support of thousands of members, companies, and donors, the first phase of the HUTO Humanization Project is now a reality. But there's still more work to be done—we still need your help to improve the pediatric ER and ICU areas. What have we accomplished so far? Designed by Rai Pinto’s architecture studio, the project draws inspiration from Toledo’s rich history as a city of three cultures. With soft arches that invite play and carefully designed shapes and forms, the new spaces not only feel more human, but also make our little Aladinos from Castilla-La Mancha feel more comfortable during their stay. Over 2,400 m² have been transformed and equipped to care for the emotional and psychological well-being of young patients, including: Inpatient units Day hospital Outpatient consultation rooms Waiting areas Hallways and common spaces Outdoor courtyard School space What’s next? We need your help for Phase II. Now, with your support, we can continue creating a hospital environment where children and their families feel safe, comforted, and supported. In this second phase, our goal is clear: to transform the pediatric emergency room and ICU into humanized, warm spaces tailored to the needs of young patients and their families. We want to build environments that provide calm, comfort, and emotional security—especially in the most critical moments.
